ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Question: When will the Workshop be held?
Answer: Thursday, May 23rd, 2019 from 10:00am to 5:30pm.
Question: Where will the Workshop be held?
Answer: At the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC in the Marriott Balcony B room (this is one level up from the main lobby and can be accessed via Center Tower Escalator 4).
Question: What's the Workshop all about, anyway?
Answer: The workshop is intended to explore, and expand, the intersection of organizational science (defined broadly) and cybersecurity. We will have representation from professional organizations, firms, government agencies, and, of course, universities. The workshop will feature research presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions. For more details, see the program here.
Question: How/where do I register for the Workshop?
Answer: Presenters and attendees are accepted on a person-by-person basis through the approval of the Workshop organizers.
Note: Depending on when you're seeing this, there may not be any attendee slots left.
Question: Who receives an honorarium?
Answer: All presenters and out-of-town attendees (who live 25 miles or more from the Marriott Wardman Park) who are accepted to the Workshop will receive a $275 honorarium to help cover the costs (e.g., travel, lodging) associated with attending the Workshop.
Question: What should I do to prepare for the Workshop?
Answer: We'd recommend taking a look at the workshop program well ahead of time.
Question: How do I know if I'm a presenter and/or a panelist at the Workshop?
Answer: Names of presenters and panelists will be listed on the workshop program, and you will be contacted directly. Please note that ALL presenters and panelists have already been selected for this Workshop.
Question: OK, so I'm a presenter. What are the guidelines for presentations?
Answer: Presentations will be 15 minutes long, plus 5 minutes for questions and answers. To help us stay on track time-wise, we ask that presenters do their best to stick to these time limits (for instance, by timing themselves during a dry run beforehand).
We also ask that presenters send Daniel and Reeshad their slides no later than Monday, May 20th. Please do so using this Dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/request/9GRA28l7QIhtszkREhcJ
(or, failing that, as an attachment in an email addressed to [email protected] and [email protected] with the word "PSYBERSHOP" in the subject line of the email).
Presenters should also bring a copy of their slides with them to the workshop, for instance on a USB drive.
The workshop room is set up for presentations. Specifically, the room has a projector, and the computer has PowerPoint installed.
Presentations should be directly relevant to both psychology (or more broadly organizational science) and cybersecurity, though they may certainly "lean" more heavily in one direction. One type of presentation might involve a summary of a specific research effort at the intersection of organizational science and cybersecurity. A second type of presentation might involve a broad overview of your (or your institution's) experience with research, practice, and/or policy at the intersection of organizational science and cybersecurity. Yet other types of presentations might also be feasible. The bulk of the content should accessible to an educated layperson/generalist audience (vs. only an organizational science or a cybersecurity specialist audience).
Because dissemination of knowledge is an important goal of this workshop, as per the National Science Foundation, we plan to post presenters' slides on a website associated with the workshop. Additionally, we are happy to post--or link to--more detailed (and technical) write-ups on the workshop website. So, if you have a journal article, conference proceeding paper, technical report, white paper, etc., that is related to your talk, we'd be happy to post or link to it on the workshop website. Just send it our way by email!
Finally, we should add that we did our very best to accommodate people who asked to present. We apologize that a few requests could not be accommodated.
Question: OK, so I'm a panelist. What's this all about?
Answer: We have provided a few questions ahead of time for each panel here. Having said that, panels are intended to: (1) be informal, (2) provide panelists with considerable autonomy to share their expertise on the topic, and (3) provide opportunities for the audience to share its expertise and ask questions.
Question: What should I wear to the Workshop? Is there a dress code?
Answer: We're pretty relaxed about dress code. "Business casual" attire, or some variation thereof, would be fine.
Question: Will I get anything to eat and drink during the Workshop? I'm sure the presentations, etc., will be fascinating, but I need some sustenance!
Answer: Yes! We will be serving very light fare in the morning and afternoon along with heavy hors d'oeuvres in the middle of the day.
Notes about food: Vegetarian food options will be available. Should you desire to purchase additional food, the Woodley Park Pantry is located on the main floor of the hotel. Additionally, if you have additional food restrictions, please send an email as far ahead of time as possible to Daniel Shore ([email protected]), and please copy Reeshad Dalal ([email protected]) on your email. Please include the word "PSYBERSHOP" in the subject line of your email.
Question: Will I need to bring a laptop or tablet computer to the Workshop?
Answer: No. We will have a computer connected to a projector, so it's not necessary to bring a laptop or tablet computer. However, if you're presenting at the workshop, please bring your slides on a USB drive as well as email them in advance to Daniel and Reeshad.
Question: Who is organizing the Workshop?
Answer: Information about the organizers can be found here.
Question: From where is the funding for the Workshop coming?
Answer: We are very grateful to the National Science Foundation, in particular the Science of Organizations program and the Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace program, for funding the workshop!
GETTING TO AND FROM THE WORKSHOP
Question: If I want to drive to the Workshop, where should I plan to park?
Answer: Information on parking coming soon!
Question: I'm coming in from out of town. Where should I stay during the Workshop?
Answer: If you choose to, and there are still rooms available, you can receive the APS discount to stay at the Marriott Wardman Park or the Omni Shoreham Hotel, which is very nearby, by using this link. Please note, we are not booking any hotel rooms for presenters or attendees. This is to be done by you.
MISCELLANEOUS
Question: Can I obtain continuing education credits or a certificate of completion by virtue of having attended the Workshop?
Answer: Unfortunately not. However, if it would be helpful, you may certainly add a line to your résumé/CV, listing yourself as an invited workshop attendee or presenter, if relevant.
Question: I know other people who want to attend the Workshop. May I bring them with me to the Workshop?
Answer: At this point you may inquire with Daniel and Reeshad about this opportunity. The workshop is for invited presenters and attendees only and, regretfully, we are only able to accommodate a limited number. Additionally, we have space constraints (in terms of room capacity) and cost constraints (in terms of available funding to provide honorariums).
